Review of the 4th MORE-CONNECT international workshop in Tallinn, Estonia

MORE-CONNECT consortium held a very successful international workshop in the framework of international conference SBE 2016 Build Green and Renovate Deep on October 6th.

This was the 4th MORE-CONNECT international workshop. More than 20 participants attended this workshop.

MORE-CONNECT project leaders Peter Op ‘t Veld and Ove Christen Mørck presented Denmark innovative technologies of prefabricated PV-roof solution and 3-D printing of a facade by an industry robot. The proposed 3-D printing is an embedded aerogel in a chalk base with a thermal conductivity of 0.028 W/mK.

Pär Svensson shared Norfac project preliminary results on development of modularized facade system for refurbishment in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.  The developed technology allows to reach heat transfer coefficient of 0.1 W/m2K.

MORE-CONNECT partners from Tallinn University of Technology made presentation on moisture dry-out in prefabricated modular renovation elements. Applications of modular panels for refurbishment show good results and ensure sustainable solutions according to the up-to-date requirements of nZEB in cold and humid climates.

Main advantages of prefabricated facade refurbishment system were analyzed in Svein Ruud’s presentation. Main benefits were defined as combined dry production process, simple and fast assembly on site as well as reduced number of thermal bridges and the potential for the use of recyclable materials. In addition to Svein Ruud’s presentation, Karin Sandberg highlighted environmental, energy efficient and cost-efficient benefits of prefabricated wooden panels.

Anders Bysted showed economic benefits of prefabricated facade refurbishment technologies. Such technologies have clear and transparent logistics and installation chain combined with standardized methods for measurements, installation and completion of works, which makes retrofitting process more attractive for investors and contractors.

Prefabricated timber facade for the energy refurbishment can be efficiently used not only in cold climates. According to Giada Malacarne’s presentation of the Ri.Fa.Re. project’s progress it could be concluded that prefabricated facade refurbishment technologies have a development potential in Mediterranean climate as well as in cold climates. Ri.Fa.Re. timber-based solution will provide high-energy performance and quick installation solution at lower prices and shorter installation time.
